In Part One I suggested some practical behavioral tips. The goal is to get the passion flowing even if your kids are making your once hot and heavy sexy time, turn into a frigid shower. Here in Part 2, I wanted to address your body…. more specifically, your hormones.
Have you ever wondered why you’re just not in the mood? Of course, there are many reasons… (heh-hem.. tripping over toys and worrying about dirty dishes… —-> super un-fucking sexy), but a big overlooked reason might be your hormones.
I’ll share a secret with you. Last year I went to a bio-identical hormone replacement clinic. The reason I went is because I had gained fifteen pounds and couldn’t nail down why. I began thinking, “Maybe my hormones are out of wack?”
After a blood test and an appointment, the nice doctor said, “Lady, you’re hormones aren’t out of wack; you’re just eating too many chips and drinking too much wine.”
…Okay, she didn’t use those exact words, but that was my interpretation. She also said, “You could try increasing your DHEA and progesterone. Do you want to try a prescription and see how you feel?”
Sign me up!
Results? I had a very noticeable difference within a few weeks! (Not in my weight, I’m still working on that.) But something sexy began stirring…. I didn’t become a sultry seductress, but I certainly felt a lift in my libido! Zing!
Now, bear in mind, this appointment wasn’t cheap and the bio-identical hormones were not covered through insurance. (You may be able to go through a health care spending account if you have one.) So if you’re not in a position—or you just don’t want—to dish out a few hundred, I’m here to offer two more suggestions.
I’ve been working in wellness industry for years (as a Holistic Nutritionist/Herbalist) and I’ve seen plenty of success stories using two specific supplements that can be used by both men and women!
Maca: Ohhh Maca! Maca is a known as a Superfood. It’s a Peruvian root.
There are all sorts of claims out there for what Maca is capable of doing: hormone balancing, increased sex drive, improved fertility (be careful if that’s something you don’t want), energy booster…. You can google it and check it out for yourself. But I can tell you from positive experience, it has the ability to raise your sex drive. On the other hand, if can be too much for others. Some women I’ve recommended it to have experienced heavy menstrual flow and breast tenderness.
I could tell you all sorts of things about Maca, but because I am not a doctor, I don’t want to get too deep into it. However, I wanted to let you know about it as a possible option. Speak to a qualified Health Practitioner if you want more information. (Naturopathic doctor, licensed Holistic Practitioner.) If you ask your regular MD about this, they probably won’t know what you’re talking about. It’s not their job to study natural health products.
The second supplement I want to tell you about is Cordyceps:
Cordyceps are a type of medicinal mushroom. Claims include: boosting sex drive and athletic performance, reversing fatigue. Apparently it has anti-aging properties. Once again, check it out if you’re interested. You can go down a rabbit hole looking at all the information out there, but it’s important to do some research!
Take note: If you are still sexually excited by other people, but not your significant other, then I can tell you that a supplement is not going to make you like your partner more.
Of course, like I said (disclaimer!), I’m certainly not a doctor, but through years of consulting with clients and using different options myself, I’ve seen a trend in what I’ve suggested.
